Creating a Marketplace
The Growth Capital Challenge
Organizing Growth Capital
Scaling top-performing nonprofits on a reproducible basis (versus one-off initiatives) requires a large, reliable source of expansion capital. A capital marketplace addresses this challenge by:
- Aggregating enough capital providers to reliably match up funders to NPOs
- Enabling execution of a significant number of high-value scaling initiatives with consistent success and sustainable funding
Forming a Growth Capital Market
To aggregate a broad number of capital providers that form a marketplace, GPN is establishing, through the Social Impact Exchange, a national network of funders interested in supporting expansion of top-performing NPOs – a “Growth Funders Network”. Each year through the Exchange national and local funders in the network review well-vetted expansion plans that align their funding interests and are needed in their communities.
Through the Exchange Funder Working Groups and its other funding platforms and venues, funders will have opportunities to participate in collaborative groups to finance growth plans of evidence-based scaling organizations. The amount raised for expansion is based on each nonprofits detailed growth plan that is circulated among funders . Learn more
The network is similar to networks of investors in the for-profit sector that invest in corporate expansion.
